What sets us apart?

About The Equality Institute

The Equality Institute (EQI) is a world-leading social enterprise working to advance gender equality and end violence against women and girls.

We are global experts on advancing equality, working across intersecting areas of research, policy and advocacy, creative communications, and education, and sought out to provide strategic advice and holistic solutions to address one of the most wide-spread and intractable issues of our time.

We have conducted over 50 studies around the world, trained thousands of individuals and supported dozens of organisations, from the United Nations, to government, private companies, community organisations and more. We were one of the Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector’s chosen providers to support public entities in complying with the Gender Equality Act 2020.

With EQI, you know you’re choosing training that is backed by evidence and experts.

Our range of services

Did you know workplaces are obliged to address psychosocial hazards as part of OH&S?

And that many organisations have compliance requirements under the current Gender Equality Act (2020) and Respect@Work legislation?

Our courses help you directly address psychosocial hazards and we provide bespoke support to public and private entities in compliance with the Gender Equality Act (2020) and Respect@Work legislation.

We’re also CPD accredited, which means our courses meet the highest standards in global professional education for multiple industries, and you get CPD points by doing them. And, as a registered social enterprise, we can also align with your organisation’s social procurement policy. Bespoke compliance training can include:

  • ‘Respect@Work’ and ‘Positive Duty’ compliance training
  • Masterclasses and ‘train-the-trainer’ packages designed to teach your staff how to deliver training in-house
  • Gender Impact Assessments (GIAs)
  • Gender Equality Action Plans (GEAPs)
  • Compliance advice, plan, co-design assistance and delivery oversight

If you’re not sure what your workplace needs, a diagnostic assessment is a great place to start. We offer a tiered range of assessments from focused to holistic, to assist organisations in understanding where they are at on their path to equality.

Diagnostic methods include:

  • Data review on gender equality indicators
  • Policy/strategy assessment
  • Stakeholder consultation
  • Leadership sessions

And the outcomes:

  • Identified areas of strength, gaps and priorities for transformative change
  • Holistic strategies and actions that go beyond box-ticking
  • Processes and technical support to enable sustainable change

Building knowledge across teams is integral in bringing everyone along the journey, amplifying positive change and advancing equality. We know the power of education, particularly when it’s focused on meeting learners where they’re at, and driving empowered action.

Our online courses are the best place to start, but we also provide knowledge building and skills development delivered in-person for times when you need that extra support.

Our courses and training:

  • Prioritises learning that is human-centred, evidence-based, trauma-informed and intersectional
  • Can include support for workplace communications if needed
  • Empowers learners to take action through an intersectional lens
  • Focuses on systems change to embed gender equality – this is key
  • Includes methods for dealing with resistance and backlash

The outcomes vary depending on each course – you can find these on individual course pages on this site, however, all education helps learners to:

  • Understand the importance of lived experience and apply an intersectional lens through a focus on how to think, not what to think
  • Apply an understanding of how organisational action or inaction can enable or hinder equality
  • Foster courage to have difficult conversations
  • Build a culture of inclusion, a celebration of diversity, and empathy and respect for all people

We believe in leadership at every level. But we also know the vital role that people managers play in building and maintaining cultures of inclusion and belonging. We provide training and coaching at all levels to enable people managers and leaders to manage change.

Leadership support methods include:

  • Senior executive workshops
  • ‘Leading for change’ coaching
  • Leadership for systems change to embed gender equality

And the outcomes:

  • Leaders understand the lived experiences of intersectional gender inequality in their organisation
  • Leaders at all levels understand the ‘case for change’ and find courage and joy in leading on intersectional gender equality
  • Leaders can develop strategies for change and management action plans to implement them effectively

The systems and policies of any organisation play a vital role in enabling positive change. We support organisations in reviewing and reflecting best practice standards to ensure that the systems and policies that make up your organisation, represent your team and vision.

Review and assessment methods include:

  • Policy reviews against best practice standards
  • Process audit and recommendations
  • Benchmarking organisational policies with leading practice

And the outcomes:

  • Human-centred systems, policies and processes aligned with leading practice
  • Implementation plan to ensure systems and policies are lived on the ground

How do you know you’re on the right track? Through measurement, monitoring and reporting to track, assess and accelerate progress.

Methods include:

  • Data reviews to assess progress
  • Critical reviews of actions and strategies
  • Strategic advice on intersectional approaches to data collection, monitoring and evaluation
  • Strategic advice on change accelerators and resourcing

And the outcomes:

  • Assessment of progress and recommendations to address gaps and challenges
  • Evaluation of measures for robustness
  • Holistic and sustainable strategies that go beyond box-ticking
